Dr Valeriia Perepelytsia

Dr. Valeriia Perepelytsia PhD (Zurich) has worked on forensic cases concerning voice comparison, language identification and transcription. As a native speaker of Ukrainian and Russian with high levels of proficiency in German and English, she engages with cases involving languages from a range of countries currently under the forensic and public interest spotlights.

She has been conducting forensic phonetic research since 2019 at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Her work focuses on factors that can affect our ability to recognise voices. These include individual voice properties, audio quality and speakers’ and listeners’ demographic characteristics. 

Valeriia holds degrees from the Kyiv National Linguistic University (Ukraine), the University of Graz (Austria) and a PhD in Computational Linguistics and Phonetics (summa cum laude) from the University of Zürich (Switzerland). She is attached to the Center for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics in Zürich and is a member of the International Association for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics. She collaborates on scientific projects internationally and presents her research at international conferences and publishes in peer-reviewed academic journals.
